FUTURE FOCUSED:
Addressing Key Needs in Fridley Schools
OPERATING LEVY
Operating levies help fund a district's day-to-day operations, which include salaries and benefits, classroom materials (textbooks, technology), utility bills, and other routine expenses. These levies must be approved by voters.

On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, our community will vote on two ballot measures to address these needs.
-
The first will ask voters to approve a voter-approved operating referendum of $424 per pupil unit.
-
An approved operating levy would have an estimated impact of:
-
$130 per year (or $11 per month) on a home with an estimated market value of $250,000.
-
$163 per year (or $14 per month) on a home with an estimated market value of $313,780, the average home value in Fridley.
-
$208 per year (or $17 per month) on a home with an estimated market value of $400,000.
-
-

A new operating levy would enable the Fridley Public Schools to maintain stable funding and invest in programs and services for our students.
-
More than 70% of Minnesota school districts rely on revenue from operating referendums to provide basic programming and services for students.
-
Compared to surrounding districts, Fridley will have the third-lowest voter-approved levy per adjusted pupil unit (APU) for the 2024-25 fiscal year.
-
If the operating referendum is approved in November, the new operating levy would begin in 2025-26 and add approximately $1.165 million in new revenue
-
Revenue from the operating levy will help stabilize the district’s finances and reduce the projected budget gap. It will also limit future budget reductions over the next several years.
